Another in a long line of imaginative shows from Shinbo and Shaft, Puella Magi Madoka Magica is a near-definitive deconstruction/reconstruction of the Magical Girl genre. With its über-moe character designs by mangaka Ume Aoki, this anime contrasts an ultra-kawaii surface look with Gen Urobuchi's emotional sledgehammer of a story, augmented especially by some gorgeous background art with stellar sound design and underscore. I'm very happy to have these nice layout drawings from this incredible anime!
